Black Mystery Chicken from McMurray - 7 weeks

I think MMH is supposed to send a "rare/exotic" chick so it should be something on that list in the cataloge. I thought maybe Sumatra too, or Andalusian which come in black, blue and splash.

Where are you located?

OK, she didn't like it much, but I caught her, and looked at her foot pads. They are pale white.

Her ear lobes are like a pale color with a blackish overlay. At 7 weeks, Her comb hasn't pinkished up, and her earlobes are the same pale color, but with an extra overlay of black. I think the earlobe will go pink when the comb does, but not sure.

Hey, Jossanne, did your black andalusian have white foot pads?

Did anyone's Australorp have a black overlay on the lobe at 7 weeks?

I've heard of some people getting an EE as a mystery chick, hardly Rare or Exoctic. I called them and they said could be any chicken in the catalog.

So narrowed down to Australorp or Andalusian

She didn't look like the chick picture of the Sumatra as a day old.
She didn't have the yellow around the eyes like the photo of the day old Minorcas, either.

Both Australorp and Andalusian are single combed, so no help there, although Andalusian is much taller. Also, maybe her fame looks more Andalusian-y. She is the flightiest of all my chicks, despite the most handling. Australorps are supposed to be very docile.

hummm, well I guess I'll know when she lays, as Andalusians lay white eggs, and Australorps lay brown.

Lotzahenz, Sorry to hear of your loss. I am located in Needville, TX (near Houston)

yeah, I got 5 staight run Cuckoo Marans chicks (no sexing option) hoping to get 2 or 3 hens, looks like all are male but 1. I sure hope she lays dark eggs. I'll wait until they crow before culling them.

lol

She is, she isn't. Maybe I'll wait and take new photos when she is older.

Or wait for egg color. She is with EEs and 1 marans hen; hopefully, her egg, if brown will be lighter than the marans egg.

i have 10 australorp, and you said the pads are white. my australorp didnt get bick either but they lay very well and all through winter. not bad for free right.

Yellow underfoot = Jersey Giant
White Underfoot = Black Australorp

is what I read on hear. I'm guessing Australorp, she look a lot like mine does, but mines a lot older

Well, she is an Andalusian.
She lays a smallish white egg.
She is light of body, sort of like a leghorn, but not so tall.
Her single comb is large, but not Huge, again much like a leghorn would have.

Thanks, to ll who tried to help me figure her out.
