Black nostrils

Any idea why some of my chickens nostrils are black? They do free range in the afternoons.

Could be dirt that has just gathered in there. Have you tried cleaning them with a cotton swab?

That looks like dirt. Like @featheredplanets said, have you tried gently cleaning it with with a wet cotton swab?

I haven’t tried anything yet. I’ll give the Q-tip or cotton swab a try. I was just concerned it might be something more alarming. They are all acting normal.

Yep, suspicions confirmed. Dirt wiped off easily with a wet cotton ball. Thanks for the replies. I’m still new to this whole chicken stuff but loving it!!
