Black on comb

My silver spangled hamburg has just had her comb fill out at 5 months. The front edges are black, while the rest of the comb is bright red. Is this always a sign of heart disease? I'll try to get a photo later.

Could be insect bites, fowl pox or injury from being pecked by other chickens but I would not be thinking heart disease right off.

Could she be poking her head through the fence to eat what's on the other side? (It's always greener on the other side, you know!)

My young buff-laced polish cockerel bloodied up his nostrils, and, yes, that is a major scratch on his beak! just reaching through the welded wire fence to get the goodies scratched to the outside of their pen. A teenager has to eat!

They do this all the time. Doesn't seem to bother them a bit.
I would go by her general behavior to determine how healthy she is.

It doesn't look like blood, which I've seen when my other hens get pecked. She is super flighty so it was hard to get in focus shots, but here are a couple photos. You can see the edges of her wattles are also black.
