I'm just getting into bantams, I am currently breeding Svart Honas, and a couple breeds of call duck. I am a 4-H shower, but do travel to Jr/Open shows, so my question is which one would provide better for breeding and showing, or just other little facts about the breeds? I know the Black Japanese would do better because you don't have to worry about patterning, but the Gray Japanese look a bit more flashy (and I would like to have a little bit of challenge with breeding for the 'perfect' Gray). We do have a good breeder for both not too far, so accessibility isn't an issue.

One determining factor might be what's available near you, unless you're willing to pay shipping. I'd look at the breeder listing and also go to some shows. Also join the breed page on Facebook if you can.

Black birds with a nice sheen are beautiful, but I personally prefer more visual interest. I like colors and patterns and variety, but that's personal preference. Your will be the one looking at them every day.
