Black scab on chickens wattle - swelling

What does the inside of the beak look like?
Hi again... The inside of her beak looks normal. no strange color etc...
She eats and drinks fine... but wants to stay in the coop all day like she's broody, but doesn't have any eggs she's sitting on. Also, the other wattle is now almost the same size. they are hot to the touch and fairly hard.

Is vet care an option?

I looked at your other thread, I agree, it's likely infection instead of just a scab like the OP had on this thread we are on.
Does the other wattle have the same damage or is it all swelling?

Other than treating it like a wound and possibly giving an oral antibiotic, I'm not sure what else to do.

Yes, the other wattle is now becoming swollen. It's about 1/2 the size of this one. We don't have an aviary vet in proximity... But I think I am going to try epsom salt / baking soda poultice (used normally for bumblefoot)... I've read that epsom salts are good to draw out infection... so we shall see...

Let us know how that works.

Sorry for your chickens miseries! It does sound like an infection or possibly (sub)cutaneous myiasis, ( a parasitic infestation of certain fly larvae)(maggots) under the skin. I have seen that (even had it myself once in the 1970s) and a cyst like hardening around the larvae is typical. If it is a larvae infestation, likely a small ulcer like spot(usually black) is in the center of the red inflamed surrounding area/wound, surrounded by hot swollen and hard tissue, inflamed and swollen but little, if any, pus or fluid (a dry wound). Often it looks like a boil may be forming, but a head or pus is not present. The maggot eats the tissues/flesh inside! I surmise, you likely have a chicken with an infection, but a parasite is a possibility. I would start using an antibiotic orally and another topical and closely watch, if a vet can not be consulted. Inflammation and swelling is bad regardless of the cause. I am not an expert or a vet! They can properly advise you, after an exam. Without seeing the bird , and we all being amateurs speculating, only, you have to make the call! Best wishes for your bird! If you discover the problem or have any changes, let us know! We all can learn with you, perhaps!
