black sex link rooster?

disclaimer: super new to chickens.

Pretty sure I know what the answer's gonna be, but we picked out 2 bsl girls and one is feathering in barred and has a much bigger comb than the other - rooster or not a bsl? neither of them had (noticeable) white dots on their heads, but I don't know how long those dots last, if they fade, and while I assumed we got the chicks when they were a few days old or less, we weren't really looking for anything specific at the time.

Pics are from 1st day we got them and just this past Wednesday - which would be about a month later.

thanks for any help! either way, we won't be getting rid of Fluffy.

Looks like a male of soem of other barred breed, doesn’t have any gold or orang color in his feather,he looks entirely barred,I don’t think it’s a bsl male.
Your bsl pullet is Also not a bsl.

There would be something about him to set him aside from any other barred breed,I haven’t came across a completely barred black sexlink rooster.
I think the all black one is an austrolorp.Black sexlink hens are all black with gold around the chest and neck.

Let the male bird fill out more,if I remember correctly my black sexlink didn’t get his color yellowish/gold until he was around three months.

I'm not 100% sure that is a cockerel though, it doesn't look like a for sure male to me yet. It may be, but I think it's too early to say with certainty. The comb isn't overly large or bright, and I don't see any wattles yet. Sorry, I was focused on the barring the first time I looked.

I guess it's a waiting game now!

My husband would love that, because then he could pick out a different rooster :)

Huh, that might be cool.

I have to admit it's kind of fun just seeing how they're going to turn out and not really knowing? Although I was looking forward to having a bsl hen - guess we'll just have to get more now!

You may have to wait for the other one to feather out, that white could still fill in with gold/brown that is typical of a BSL.

Just noticed that the black one (DJ Chirps) has gotten one white tip at the bottom of each of her wing feathers - meaning one feather on each side has it, not all the wing feathers, at the bottom of her wings) can't get a good picture, but it's the same on each side of her. So leaning toward some mutt/mix? Are there any black breeds that have that? If I can get a good picture I'll post it.
