?Are you sure she is 3 lbs? Isn't she part Marans? I would have expected her to weigh more! That said.......if anything, and she does weigh more, then you would be under dosing her, which is safe...and would still give her some pain relief....under dosing in this situation is far better than overdosing.

I completely agree that, in this case, Aspirin would NOT be a good alternative, as you don't know about internal injuries, and risk bleeding. I personally would, whenever you have a bit of extra money, get some liquid children's Ibuprofen to have on hand. It is both a pain reliever and an anti-inflammatory (unlike tylenol/acetaminophen which works differently on pain, and is not an anti-inflammatory)

Yes. Exactly right. Bleeding risk aside aspirin or ibuprofen are better because they reduce the swelling that causes pain.
I actually think we are past any internal bleeding risk now - but acetaminophen is what we have to work with.
I keep baby aspirin on hand. No liquid to measure with.

I am hopelessly behind - but this dose sounds correct. Being a Marans cross she likely does weigh at least 3kg. And likely more.

Most meds are based on the minimum dose that will provide relief, there is also an upper threshold at which it becomes toxic. One would need to give lots for this to occur. .5ml would be fine.

I give it every 12 hrs.

Ibuprofen is an NSAID same as aspirin., and Meloxicam.

Tylenol is a non-aspirin NSAID. It won’t help inflammation per say, but with fever, and pain it is a good choice.

Ok grabbed a few quick pics this morning before I headed north.

I did a quick head count - 3 tiny wee babies. I am almost freaked out handling them!

And I have Whiskers some water and food. I am about to go get her off the nest to poop and check babies again.

And I removed that last egg. It was not growing since Thursday it seems.

I need to dig it up, but I once got a picture from FedEx marked ‘delivered’. It was of a picture of a parcel at the base of a tree. No distinguishing surroundings. Just other trees. I live in a clearing in the woods. Could be anywhere!

I have no idea what mix she is. She was apparently (I wasn't there) sold as a BSL, idk what the hatchery uses to produce their BSL (don't remember which hatchery FF&H gets their chicks from either. I asked @SimpleJenn once but I forgot what she told me ) or if she was even in the right bin in the first place.

She is much less heavy than the other BSL, Esme. I haven't weighed Esme recently but I expect her to be at least 5lbs.

That being said, our bathroom scale is like, almost 20 years old, and it took a few tries to even get it to work. But I tested it a few times and each time it came out with Aliss around 3lbs.

Just a half hour after one dose of the tylenol she's putting weight on the leg and walking much better. She's so bright and alert today compared to the past 2 days! I'll let her stretch her legs for a bit before bringing her back in the garage. It's business as usual for the others, they're not picking on Aliss and are still respecting her personal bubble so I think her standing is safe.

Make sure she doesn’t move around too much. She needs her rest, the pain meds are to allow her to feel well enough to ensure she is eating and drinking properly. Not to be moving around - sorry I should have clarified this for you.

Pain management is about reducing any pain so that one feels well enough to eat, drink and sleep properly. All things one needs to heal properly. We still want to limit movement, for at least a week.

But super glad she was feeling better

Thanks @Ponypoor - TOMTE’s product is 160mg in 5mls. I think that is a crazy way to show concentration. At least give it per ml like yours does!

Hmmmm yes that is an odd dose, maybe it’s for toddlers. The dose is different for those here I have seen on the box.

So 32mg/ml, and 16mg/0.5ml. Well within the tolerance range.

Hmmm you know I seem to recall that I saw this strength before and commented on it. Now I am sure it’s for toddlers. At any rate it’s still good

Oy vey... Well... Let's see if I can hold myself together.

About an hour ago Aliss fell asleep. Within minutes she was gone. I don't know what happened. She was doing so well today. I was about to give her a piece of my dinner and she was just lying there, her comb was starting to turn pale, she was still warm. She must have just passed. I held her and rocked her and kissed her over and over and cried. I had to bury her by myself, my dad is sleeping. I'm just stunned, and my heart is broken. I don't know what happened. I'm just glad she went in her sleep. I hope she wasn't in pain. And I'm happy her last day was good. I'm just so... More than sad. I don't know how else to put it, just heartbroken. I didn't expect it. I didn't think it would hit me so hard.
