Black sex link thread!!! Pics and info!

Pics
I just got my 3 BSL chicks yesterday! I am new to owning chickens but I am already hooked. My son is a fan of Doctor Who so the girls are named Rose, Donna, and River Song. We love watching them run around flapping their wings.

So adorable! My very first chicken was a BSL. Welcome to the chicken world!

This may be the wrong thread for this question. What makes them "sex-links"?

They are a deliberate cross between a Rhode Island Red male and barred Rock female. The male offspring have a white dot on their heads and the female offspring are solid black. The chicks do not have to be vent sexed, they can be sexed by down color.

Have 2 black sexlinks, both are about 2 years old. Think my rhode Island reds out lay them, but not by much, during warmer months. THe plus to the sexlinks is I have found they will lay all winter as the others slow down then.

Also, are BSL a certain hatchery' special breed? Meyer didn't have them but Mcmurray did
Most hatcheries have them. Ideal, McMurray, Cackle, Hoover, and Mt Healthy all have them. Meyer doesn't have black sex links, but they do have red sex links.
