We got these two chicks from our feed store. The associates at the store had no idea the breed and they were mixed in with many different looking chicks. Someone suggested they were Black Sex Links. All the chicks were to be hens, but you know how that goes. When I looked up the breed I saw that only males have the white spots on their heads. Now we are wondering if we took two Roos home with us. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

They could be male BSL, but most likely are barred rocks. Can you divide those pics up? Show each chick separately, including shot of back of head and comb, side profile, and shot of legs/feet for one chick, then do the same for the other.

They look like EE to me.Thats what mine looked like when they were younger.

They look like female Barred Rocks to me (surprised the workers didn't know that :idunno). They're beautiful! I love that breed, and most of them are really friendly. :D
Here's my BSL pullet, around a week-and-a-half old.

And my BR pullet, over three-weeks old:

Edited to add: They remind me more of Cuckoo Marans. :) If their feet are pink, not yellow, then they're not Barred Rocks after all, but if the feet and legs are yellow, then they'd be BRs.

Black sex link hens are mostly black with a bit of reddish around their neck-possibly more if they didn't breed true, as is the case with one of mine-so it's either roosters or Barred Rock. Probably Barred Rock.
