Black silkie parents ~ 4 baby chicks hatched ~3 black, 1 white

Looking at your photos, I would say you very definitly have some blues. Pretty cute human chicklet, too

After looking at the pics of the other silkies, I'm pretty sure I have dark blues not black. I had no idea!

And the little human chicklet is my little "helper" Hudson. Although when he "helps" me it usually tacks on an extra 1 hour to my project.

He loves to have his picture taken! When I asked the kids if one of them could hold a chick so I could get a photo he was the 1st outside!
When I zoomed in to get just a pic of the chicks, he said, "Hey you didn't get me in there!" I told him I want to get just the chicks so I can see what color they are. So he put a chick on each chubby cheek and smiled.

I took the photo but didn't send it. I didn't want anyone thinking, "Why is that little boy wearing silkie's as earmuffs?"

Alot of times, its hard to tell on birds without doing test breedings. After many years of black on black only breedings, I see a few differences. When you are bathing the dark blues, the down looks like a pewter color. Bathe a black and it is jet black down to the core. I work with a certain line of blues/splash where it is VERY common to get that lack of pigment on tips of the toes too. Sometimes its only a light toenail and other times its almost the whole bottom of the foot that is light. On the feathers, look at the shafting especially on the feet. You will faintly see the darker hue through the hackle and saddle. You will also see lighter underfluff on the chest and tushes of the blues too.
Sometimes you can tell the difference when you put a true black and a dark blue side by side....
