Black silkies

I'm just in Minnesota, the next state if you'd like to take a drive. Otherwise shipping is possible.
Minnesota would be much more doable. After peeking at your website, it looks like it is about a 6 hour drive each way, so that is a ways to go. If it was summer, I would love to drive it. I am a teacher, so this is the super busy time of the year. I have never had mature chickens shipped before. But, I sure would be interested in an adult or a little one or ones. I don't know much about the logistics of shipping.

In fact I just shipped 8 black juveniles to VA yesterday.... Hard part is that it is much more spendy than regular priority mail shipping on say day old chicks. Older birds are shipped in special filtered boxes and go express mail via the post office. I ran a shipping quote to Wausau WI as an example.... To ship 1 box it would cost $36.65 for the express mail and $10 for the box itself. 2 boxes zip tied together would be $57.15 for express and $20 for the boxes. Those boxes are 16"tall by 20" long by 8" wide. They aren't huge... So you can fit most times 1 silkie cock, sometimes 2 pullets/hens, 3-4 of the 2-3 month olds, 8 of the 1-2 month olds, OR 25 or so of the newly hatched babies in each one. The further away from me, the higher the postage. For example, to ship those 2 boxes to VA yesterday was $86 express and $20 for the boxes. Some states like TX also have special surcharges where it costs even more. Most shipments are there the next day, but they usually guarantee the 2nd day by 3pm. Thus we put plenty of food and fruit in the box to hold them for a couple days. To ship across state lines, you also have to follow USDA guidelines. I'm NPIP and certified free of both PT and AI. Some states require a vet certificate that they are healthy (CVA) and many are now requiring an import permit.

Do you also do priority mail shipping on day old chicks? I'm still very interested in putting something together. Just curious. Trying to figure out how best to have them shipped, because I work during post office hours. I'm available on Saturdays for pick up, but is it even possible to set up delivery for a Saturday? Thank you so much for all of your great info!

Nope sorry can't do priority... That can take 5 days and sometimes more and I like for my chicks to arrive alive. Big hatcheries get by with it because they just refund for chicks lost or send more and I don't do that either. You usually want to ship Monday or Tuesday and even Wednesday is chancy... If they don't get there within allotted time, they will be sitting in that post office all weekend and most likely be dead by pick up on Monday. The post office will also deliver right to your home, you don't have to go in to pick them up. If you call ahead and let them know, they can just set them in your garage or where ever. My local post office will call my cell phone at even 5 am to come in to pick up birds. The regular counter is closed but they have people in there working.

Hello All,

I am looking for black on black show quality Silkie hatching eggs. Please message me if you have any available. My zip is 99161 for shipping costs.

Thanks!

I have 4 pure black silkies, so you can find them. I am going to start breeding some when they get old enough to do so. They are now 12 weeks old.
