Thanks for posting him! I LOVE him! He is even prettier in person. My husband even likes him and he thinks silkies are dumb

The only chicken he likes is "Barrie" his barred rock hen (original name right-guess who picked it LOL). Anyways, I will deff keep you posted on post-molt picks, and pics of the baby as it grows up.

What do you think of this dog shampoo for black Silkies? It's called Black on Black, the second one down. I have their White on White for my white dogs and it really brightens and whitens them, although I haven't tried it on the white Silkies.

Red tones coming through on black dogs may be a similar problem as with sunburned black chickens looking brown.
Here is an explanation of how it works. http://www.chrissystems.com/pet-grooming-show-dog-and-cat-color-shampoo.aspx

When a "black" silkies crest turns a little brown from being outside in the summer, doesn't that mean its really a dark blue & NOT a black?

I have a question about silkie toes and toe nails. Several months back I did a search and it said that when silkies are born with white tips on the end of a few toes that they will turn dark or black later. Well now I am starting to wonder. I have an almost 3 month old little black one with a couple of white toes and toenails. So for all of you that know way more than I do when they hatch with white toes should I be selling them as pet quality since their toes probably will not turn dark. Do some turn and some don't?
Thanks

Direct sunlight wreaks havoc on most colors. White and splash get a brassy yellow tint. Buff fades to pale gold. Blues, blacks, chocolate, etc fade to a sunburnt reddish shade of them.
