Black silkies

I am doing Black Silkies, and Lavender Silkies and Showgirls. I will also be using lav splits but they will be kept separate from my PURE blacks.

I just sold off most of my Blues/Splashes (still have a trio to go), and my porcelains are being picked up tomorrow! I also have LF BLRW but they are mainly for layers.

Are the black boys the only ones that get color leakage, of either silver or brown? I have a black/split to lavender Rooster that has a small amount of red leakage and I am looking for a black roo. I am growing out some and a prospective boy is just starting to get some brown leakage coming in and he is only 2 and a half months old. Do the black girls get leakage and does this happen in blues also?

Just candled my first set of Black eggs and they were all clear!

I guess I will be trimming butts tomorrow when it is light out. I have 2 more black hens to add to the group too so I guess I will trim, add them (they have been in quarantine for 3 weeks) and hope for some fertile eggs in a week or two!

How are everyone else's blacks doing?

Sorry about your eggs! I guess thats what keeps this interesting....

I have 12 eggs incubating and a pen of a hen with 4 pullets waiting on a black cockerel to grow up!

Rilly 10...I want some of those black babies when they arrive. My current four are growing like weeds.

Pretty birds! If i were ever to have a silkie it would be a black one!!!!

I have a nice black silkie roo at auction right now, not split to anything as far as I can tell.

I'm sorry -- putting some positive engery in your direction for fertile eggs next go ~~~~ My blacks are doing great and my young ones are growing out beautiful . I just put all my mature hens back with their roos ( been showing them all summer ) so hopeing for a nice batch of eggs in a week or so

how has everyone summer been ? I've had one of the bussiest summers in a long while . I'm canning potatos today hope to get them finished soon !! Missed chatting in the threads .~~~~ Tammy
