Black Snakes

This was my last run in with a black snake. Silkie in its belly was not small, it was our biggest chick.

That makes me sad! Poor little chick! I know, I would be more alarmed if I was raising chicks myself. An egg here and there is no big deal, but I would be pretty darned determined to get that snake off my property if it was eating my poor innocent baby chicks! I'm sure that there are plenty of other things around for them to eat!

We call them chicken snakes and they are a kind of constrictor. with an attitude... they will kill a grown chicken setting on a nest by constriction If she doesn't leave the nest. Mothballs helps some and they have a powder called snakeaway.. may be harmful to chicks though.. ceramic eggs will get rid of them also as they cant break them and die....
