I have noticed for the last three months, my Red X link pullet has black spots on her comb. These are not raised up, nor do they look like scabs, or pustules, or anything like that, and she has never been in cold weather yet, so they couldnt be freeze marks. They are not on the end of her comb, they are more down toward her head area.
I was looking last night and there seem to be more of them.
I KNOW my EE is becoming more dominant and pecks her in the head area sometimes when they are eating, but these dont really look like bloody scab marks either. Could this happen with a hard peck from another chicken, but not hard enough to draw blood? Since she seems healthy in all other respects, and the spots don't seem to look like anything I have seen, I am at a loss. I have looked it up and just dont find anything.

Any ideas what would cause this? And is there anything I need to rub on her comb to help?
I can try to get a picture, but I would have thought if it was pox, she would have become sickly by now, after all this time, or gotten over it.

I've noticed that 3 of my not-so-obedient hens have small black spots on their combs - so I watched them for a few hours. The rooster was leaving them. The hens wouldn't squat for him so he was being pretty ruff and holding them by their combs. All the other hens squat and their combs are fine. Hope this helps.
