I am in North Central AR. Some of my girls/boys have black spots on their combs. Is this a type of pox or something else? How do I treat it, whatever it is?

Nothing I see looks like pox. It all looks like battle wounds or scratches. Are you seeing any lethargy, or respiratory symptoms? Seems like being spread by mosquitoes... might still be too cold in your neck of the woods to be of concern right now??

When one of my stags gets a wound... the hens tend to keep it "clean" or groomed and usually causes slow healing.

If you do face Pox... it's a virus like a cold... keep nutrition high and it would pass.

To me... this is treated by either disregarding it or doing something that changes flock dynamics. Sometimes... small wounds on a hens comb that isn't from sparring with another lady could be from a rooster grabbing during mating or some jerks, peck the hen when they get off her.

Thank you very much. I thought it was a little early for mosquitoes just yet. They are all acting just fine, no signs of illness, just the black marks.

I appreciate your response!

I saw the same kind of little black specks on my cockerel's comb several weeks ago. I finally decided it must be tiny little scabs from little scratches or pecks when some went away and others appeared in a different spot. At the moment, I don't see any.
