Black Star Sex-linked pullet from Hatchery looks like Roo

Quote:
BSL roosters do look like barred rocks but. BLS roos only have one copy of barring gene giving them BR hen colors and they often have red leakage and solid black tail feathers.

It looks the OP will have to wait for a while to see what it is.

Ok, I took Parvati -- the purported black star pullet that looks suspiciously like a BR -- outside today. She (or he) looked absolutely stunned to be outside for the first time. The pics at at 5 weeks old.

The shanks should be seen better, I hope.

I saw the pic of the black star Roo/cockerel chick from that website. Thanks for the link.

Parvati (the suspicious black star pullet); absolutely did not have a big white/yellow spot on top of head as a chick. She (or he) did, however, have a very small slither of fuzzy yellow streak at back of head towards neck.

yes but Barred rock Hens crossed to RIR males, that will give you barred males.....at first I thought it was a boy, but look at the chicks shank color...they look greenish, if its a pullet then she is B/b+ ID/- This abnormal shank pigment usually only shows up in females with a single copy of sex-linked barring

You seem be knowledgeable on some genetics and sex-linked traits of these chickens. So - my big question is - IS IT REMOTELY POSSIBLE to have a BARRED BLACK SEX-LINK PULLET?

Thanks to your answers in advance...

Is that picture (see my first post of this question) of the "production black pullet" that is barred on feathersite.com a true phenomenon, or a mistake by the feathersite.com?

I'm sorry, but I think thats a mistake by feathersite.com because I Google Image-d "Production Black Pullet" and the none of the results I got were barred, they were all the color a black star pullet should be

I noticed the shank color is greenish, which usually means it's a cross between two different chickens. Either you have a black star roo, which I think is the most plausible idea, or a barred rock was misplaced/misindentified by the hatchery. For now, all you can do is wait because none of us know for sure
