Black toes= unhappy chicken

I certainly hope that she recovers with as little damage as possible. It sounds like you are doing an excellent job in treating her, and I don’t have anything to add to what you are doing. Please let us know how she is doing, and it helps to post a picture of how things end up. Glad to have you here on BYC.

Yes, it sounds like you’ve got the treatment going very well already, and now all that’s left is seeing how well her recovery goes... it doesn’t look great for all the toes, but your hen will most likely do well with your care and attention. Keep us posted With updates. Missing a few toe joints is not the end of the world for a chicken. She’s in good hands in your care!

And... Welcome to BYC!

Crisis may bring you here but we’re happy to have you and the community will make you want to stay! :hugs

You’re doing great for your girl! Keep it up! :)

I can’t add a thing as far as treatment goes. You seem to be doing fine. Scout, my chicken with frozen feet, lived a happy, comfortable life. His toes didn’t fall off, but they gnarled up something fierce and he ended up with stumps at the ends of his legs. I’m on my iPad and have a dickens of a time with links, so I hope this works.....it’s Scout’s story.

Thanks, I’m still working on figuring out the whole links to posts etc, but I remembered your story on Scout form another frostbite post... it’s good to hear about chickens coming back from these sorts of injuries and how the recovery process was for them. They are resilient and lovely animals...

Candy is doing great! She ended up loosing two toes but is happy and. We’ve been unsuccessful reintegrating her into the flock so we got her goslings and ducklings to raise and she’s turned out to be a great momma. Please excuse the poo on her foot... she’s a chicken.

Thank you for the update. Glad to hear that she has been raising babies, but sorry that the flock would not accept her back. I have been dealing with a sepeated hen who has to be apart because they try to kill her. I am happy that she just lost some toes, and not a foot. You did a great job fixing her.
