Hi, for all you who don't know me, I am Black Hackle. Yea, I know my profile says that already, but what gives. This thread will include the growing and criticizing of 3 champion-line Light Sussex roosters as they mature and compete with each other for first pick. The poll is to be used to vote which one you feel is actually the top pick. You may change your vote as the birds grow!

I wouldn't be concerned about too many points on comb, they make good breeders, a it is only half a point deduction for each extra point. A good comb is the last thing a breeder should look for in the breeding process. Honestly, as long as it is a single comb and has more than four points it is fine. The color is hard to tell as a juvenile, but I wouldn't care about it either. As long as it is Columbian. Breeders always breed for type first. That includes wideness of head and stuff. Temperament is important as well. Color only comes before comb in the evaluation process. Just make sure what you are working with isn't too dark or too light and you will be fine.

I like Nicklas. There's just something about him. I think Alex is a write off at this point. That back topline is just too off-kilter.

I can see what you mean, his hackle just ain't developing. Unfortunately he weighs 1/2 pound more than the others, but I am selecting for type not weight. I am also leaning towards Niklas
