well, I have kept them all alive for seven weeks now. Yay me. I have been having a heck of a time with Hildegard’s crop and trying to figure out how to fix it. I have to order a crop bra but in the mean time I am making one for her. I have tried three and all three have failed, I nearly choked my chicken to death with the tube sock one. Well, this post isn’t about her, it’s about my bossy girl Blanche. You see since I have been hovering over Hildegard for the last seven weeks I haven’t really had time to give all of the others a thorough look over. Today I was watching them out in the yard and noticed that Blanche has dirty feet feathers. She isn’t anything at all like Hildegard, Hilde always keeps her feathers pristine. So I decided it was time for Blanche to have a bath and a look see. She only has two toes on one foot! What! Wait...count them again...yup, two toes and a nub. How on earth does a chicken come with only two toes? When I got her they told me she was a Silkie, well as she grew it became apparent that she was not, and yes,before you guys ask, I did count to see if she had five toes. She didn’t, but I missed that she only had two. Right now I feel like that kind of mom that accidentally leaves her kid at the mall... I wonder if this is going to affect her in anyway, I mean she is the boss of all the chickens and she perches. Hmmm...
