Blast from the Past: 1931 Ward's Catalog Had CHICKS! Cool Pic!

that is so neat! my dad grew up on a farm in the 40's in glendale AZ down the street from the original hickman lady(for all you az peeps). of course, hickmans is huge now. but my dad would tell me that on his family farm, the chicks would be delivered 200 at a time in boxes and they came with pink powder that you put in their water, otherwise they would be dead by morning. his family sold their eggs to bashas grocery in brown paper bags, i don't remember for what price.

he LOVES to tease me for having chickens on my 1/3 acre in a cul-de-sac!

Could have been from McMurray, they say they have been around for more than 95 years.

Cool ad! I wish I could find an old Agway catalog, back in the '70s my parents got chicks from them and I remember the ad saying 1 cent. I think they were straight run and my dad would order 200 and brood them in the bedroom I shared with my sisters.
