BLAZING FIRE (A Dragon RP) #2

Nora: she is. No sign of her. We back tracked to try and find her, but we found human scents mixed in with hers.
Scarlet curled her tail around her talons. "We better warn the rest of the wing. ...also start some precautions." Scarlet murmured, mostly to herself. "What do you think we should do, Nora?"

After hearing the human commotion, Shimmer saw 4 people walk up to her enclosure. She looked at one of them in astonishment. They had a small dragon perched on her shoulder! She had never seen a dragon this small before, it was only 3 or 4 feet long! The human the small dragon perched on said, "Well, look who's woken up!" (but Shimmer can't understand what he's saying lol) Shimmer only looked at him with a confused expression. The human then turned to the others and talked with them. All the while, Shimmer eyed this tiny dragon with curiosity. It was between the size of a hatchling and fledgling, but it appeared fully grown. The humans walked away after a few minutes of talking among themselves. A while later, Shimmer was laying down on the ground, nothing to do but mind ablaze with questions of what would happen to her. Suddenly she heard a loud whisper from just outside her enclosure. "Psst!" the voice said harshly. This voice she could understand. "Hello?" Shimmer replied. "Is anyone there?" She looked around, and then she saw her. It was the small dragon! It climbed onto the steel-mesh door, and picked the lock on it with with its claws, which were barley small enough to do so. Slipping inside, the small dragon turned around, shut the door and re-locked the lock. "Hey, what was that for? I could have escaped! Wait a minute, how did you do that?..." Shimmer said.

"Well, you're brain probably doesn't have the capacity to understand how a lock even works, so I'm not gonna bother explaining."

"What do you mean? I think I'm relatively smart for a dragon."

"Are you kidding? I have greater intelligence than a human! Your IQ might be a.....five at the most. The average human is about a seven, and I'm an 8. You're WAY dumber."

"Woah woah woah. What's an IQ? Where am I? What's going on? And why are you so...."

"Small? I'll get to that later. Quit asking so many questions. You seem to be more curious than all the others.....hmm.........anyway, the name's Spark. My owner named me that--"

"--Your owner? Wait, what--"

"--Shut up. Let me finish. My owner is one of the scientists who helped capture you. His name is Robert Wessley. But that's not important. What IS important is that he and his crew capture dragons, and do all sorts of stuff. They study them, their scales, their genetics, there's been a few eggs that even got found and they got genetically modified. This is probably a lot for you to take in at once, because your dumb, but I can handle it because I'm actually smart, so try to keep up. After they're done, they put trackers on you and release you. It's for research purposes, it won't hurt you."

"Slow down! So I'm gonna be able to go back to my wing?"

"Yes. Some trackers stay on the dragons permanently, others are designed to come off on their own in a certain amount of time. There's microchips, collars, thingies that attach to your horns, all kinds of stuff. The amount of time you stay here varies. Most dragons pretty much just get a few scales taken, a tracker put on them, and then they are released. Others stay for a lot longer. Sometimes a few weeks.

"WEEKS?!?! NOOOOOOOO!"

"Could you keep it down!? I'm not supposed to be in here, you know! Just because SOME dragons stay for a few weeks doesn't mean you will! It's mostly the ones who aren't healthy and need serious medical treatment. You don't look sick, so your stay will most likely be pretty short."

"Ok.....also you still haven't said why you're so small..."

"Oh....yeah. Well....sometimes dragons are captured for something called selective breeding. It's where humans purposely breed dragons with desired genetic traits to take the babies and sell them as pets."

Shimmer cowered against the wall at this statement. "First of all, that's disgusting. Second of all, they take the babies and SELL THEM!? What happens to the parents?" she asked. "Well, the parents usually never see their kids again after they're taken," Spark replied gravely. Shimmer paused for a moment, sighed, and then said, "I've always wanted hatchlings of my own, but not like that. That's a horrible thing, to separate parents from their own kids. Who does it happen to?" "Well," Spark said, "Usually dragons with 'desired traits'. Mostly the mothers just get taken into taken into that operating room over there, and they have a clutch of eggs in a few days or so. " She shuddered. "I was selectively bred to be a 'shoulder dragon'. They're mean't to fit perfectly on a human shoulder."

"That's......"

"....Odd, I know."

"Well.......what element are you?"

"I'm two, actually. Crystal and water. And judging by the way you look, you're an ice dragon. So don't bother trying to attack me if you get mad at me, ice element is pretty useless against water, it's just frozen."

Shimmer snorted and set a small tuft of grass by Spark ablaze. Spark jumped back in surprise, and immediately put it out using her element. "What the...." she said. " Eh, I'm cursed," Shimmer said in a nonchalant tone of voice. "I could kill you if I wanted to, ya know, but I promised myself a long time ago I would never kill a dragon unless it tried to hurt me, my friends, or my mate or hatchlings, if I ever have a mate or hatchlings one day." Spark was beginning to get annoyed by all of Shimmer's talking by now. "--Ok, ok, that's enough," she interrupted. "I have better things to do than listen to a mindless dragon babble on and on." Shimmer looked surprised, and a bit angry. "Well, you shouldn't have come in here in the first place if you didn't want to talk. And quit treating me like an idiot. I know a little bit more than you think I do, and common sense tells me you're not smarter than a human. You're just very observant and have had a lot of practice problem solving. And before you start telling me about all the stuff you know and I don't, I have memorized literally every element a dragon can have, so don't try me." At this, Spark simply scoffed, climbed on the door, picked the lock, came out of the enclosure, and shut and locked the door behind her. "Well, that sure was a waste of time. And, just to brighten up your day, ombré wings are an extremely rare and desirable trait, according to humans. I wouldn't be surprised if they take you into that horrid operating room make you have a clutch of eggs in a few days, and then steal your babies and sell them." After saying this, she scurried away and out of sight, leaving a deeply disturbed Shimmer behind.

(sorry for the ridiculously long post, I wanted to get my train of thought down all at once XD)

(sorry for the ridiculously long post, I wanted to get my train of thought down all at once XD)
(Don't be sorry! I love reading your long posts!)

(Yup, it's just called their camp! The dragons are carnivores. I'd think that hatchlings would eat regurgitated food like older wolf pups do.(but that's kind of gross).
I like to think they are more like some lizards and servants that can eat their food completely solid XD

Nora: honestly alpha, other then keeping the fledglings tucked away in camp, and heightening our patrols, I can only think of one other thing. *she was reluctant to say what it was.* to find a new territory.

(Heehee, yeah. That makes more sense!)

Scarlet nodded slowly. "Yes." She looked around at the towering trees and misty blue sky. "We shall only leave if things get worse." Scarlet decided.
