I've hatched eggs a few times and I've never had this happen before. Baby developed, was fine, pipped the egg, zipped the egg... I went to lie down for a while (I have covid and being up too long makes me weak), and when I came back, zipped chick hadn't made any progress on getting out further.

I got it out of the incubator to check on it, and there was a pool of blood under the egg.

I can only assume that when it zipped, it hadn't absorbed all its vessels and bled out after hitting it. I've never had this happen before?? Was it just some freak hatch accident or was it something I did?

Were there any others hatching out at the same time? I had one batch last year where the first hatching chick very literally came out kicking and actually did some damage to his neighbors who weren't all the way out yet.

There were and that makes sense. A few of the babies after getting out have literally crawled and fumbled their way over the other eggs.
