Blind and confused hen.

Joepa true there is a time to live and a time to die but, with all due respect Joepa, I don't think you are the one to tell when that time is. Hope your family isn't watching you like that figuring when you are too much work to take care of.

Give her a chance if you can. I had some seriously disabled hens and it never affected their egg laying. So even though they had to be in their own area and couldn't "run with the pack" didn't mean they didn't contribute. Those also make fantastic baby chick momas

The comb to me looks like she is a bit depressed. Are you sure she is eating ok? When my girls don't feel good they will stop eating but drink a lot, then their poop looks like that. Her eyes looks great, so strange that she is blind. Maybe she had some trauma to her head? Either way, put her on some electrolyte water and food and see if you can perk her up a little bit. Mushed up egg yolks help too. Maybe keep her isolated so that you can observe everything. Talk to her a lot, that seems to be soothing them. Hope it will work out

The beak the way it is shaped may also have to do with how and how much she eats. She may not get a whole lot of food into it at any one time. Just a wild guess

Awww, you can tell she can't see, she is listening to the camera click.

Her poop does look sickly, can you take a sample of it to a vet and have them look it over?

she is so pretty and yes, her eyes look fine. I don't think hens get hysterical blindness maybe she had an injury. Do you have a hen or youngster who is very gentle - she might perk up if she had company.

Awwww Poor hen.

Thanks for the replies.

I think her beak is a bit of a funny shape becasue my girlfriend has been puts corn on the concrete for her.

Electrolyte water and food??? Whats that? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick.

Unfortunately we do not have any other chickens to keep her company. Our neighbour over the road has a younger adult hen of the same type. They used to be together all the time. Since Jessica went blind she does not come out of her house of her own accord. She has to be picked up and placed outside. Next doors hen just seems to ignore her most of the time. My neighbour has given me some wire mesh so we are going to build a small house/run for her inside our house. Now that will be interesting.
