Hi everyone, we have a blind cockerel who has extremely poor eyesight after getting into a fight with another cockerel.
A few months ago, we moved him into a separate enclosure to his flock as the same cockerel kept attacking him. Now, he is on his own with no hens and seems to be very depressed and doesn't come out of his coop.
As we can't return him to his old coop with his old hens I am not sure what to do to entertain him. Apart from his eyesight he is healthy and eats and drinks well. Just having trouble finding something that he will enjoy as he is blind. Any suggestions?

Thanks 🐓

Is his new spot adjacent to the old coop so he can still be around the others without the risks?
Unfortunately no, we didn't have enough room to put him near his old coop and also he was very stressed when he was anywhere near the other cockerel who was repeatedly trying to attack him through the fence.
Thanks for the idea

I would also think about things that make his getting around more accessible - e.g., lower ramps and roosts, maybe using smells and sounds in ways that might help orient him. I'm a newbie, though, so I don't have any useful specifics to add to that general concept!

Would do that but the hens seem happy with the cockerel they're with and am afraid that they might be upset if moved away. Thanks for the suggestion though 😁
She wouldn't.
I had to separate two roosters that were fighting. I gave the the guy that was going to be sold a hen that liked him and they were perfectly happy together in their own pen.

Thank you so much for the advice 😄! I think some herbs are supposed to smell strong for chickens and so I will try things like that to help guide him around. And I am probably more of a newbie than you and so I'm very glad you've made these suggestions.
