Blind Duckling?

View attachment 1349617 View attachment 1349618 Here’s what she has for food.

Could this be the problem? I’ve read protein should be 19-21%?

Oh no, that's a layer feed. Way too much calcium for ducklings. She needs to stop feeding that ASAP. Too much calcium can cause kidney damage, bone issues, kidney failure, seizures, etc. And death.

And yes, also not enough protein.

She needs to switch to a chick feed immediately. Or it looks like that brand has a duckling feed if she wants to stay with that brand, which would be even better.

It really makes me mad that it looks like the feed store wrote "Chick Starter" all over the front of that bag when the tag clearly says it's a layer feed. Along with "Non-GMO" written on there even though it already says that on the tag. They probably don't think people check the tags on the bags.

I wonder if they emptied the bag and filled it with chick starter?

I'd definitely be asking about it, but at this point I wouldn't trust that feed. And I'd be asking for a refund too. And if they did that, who knows what they actually did put in there, and whether it's even actually feed from that brand?

Okay! So my friend asked the woman she got the ducklings from about the food - She said she had put chick starter into the bag and sold her that. So hopefully that is true and the food inside is actually that brand of chick starter, not layer food.

If it’s not the calcium that’s causing a problem, any other ideas? Most likely the niacin?

Honestly I'd toss it out and get new feed instead anyway, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
