bloated duck

I think that other lady with the other duck I mentioned had the same diagnosis. She ended up having surgery to remove the oviducts and had an implant to prevent her from ovulating. They have to replace the implant every so often.

oh I hate to hear this, hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and she'll get over it. And an infected hair follicle what did he do for that?
Yeah i hope it helps because I don't really have enough money to get surgery for her. I might have to sell my car and borrow money from my mother to pay because shes only a year old and i want her to live a long life. He said the antibiotics will help the feather follicle.

Wow! I never heard of that condition. I did a search on google and found the following post...

"~~Our chicken "Angel" has egg yolk peritonitis, but is rapidly recovering since we began giving her DURAMYCIN-10 (tetracyline hydrochloride soluble powder) just 1 day ago :). I was really surprised how little information there is about this. It is often misdiagnosed as Egg Bound and sounds like many don't make it. The easiest way to tell the difference is to gently feel the (out) sides of the vent, if she is egg-bound you will be able to feel the hard eggs within. Our story: We recently found one of our girls collapsed and weak in the coop. Her abdomen and vent were swollen. First thought it's an e-coli infection, and contacted our local grange to get antibiotics. Her sister had just started laying, and she was likely due to start too. We figured it was probably related to this, and suspected her to be egg-bound. Tried a warm bath and gentle massage but did feel any eggs, instead the swelling felt spongy. After 5 days giving her SULMET (sulfadimethoxine) and praying, the swelling in her abdomen and vent were still increasing. We were desperate, searching the internet, calling the avian vet, etc and the most helpful thing I came across was this video on youtube, showing a chicken that had all the same symptoms , but had also recovered! Pretty much everything else I had read said the prognosis was poor and to puther in the pot. During the video the speaker holds up a bag of the antibiotic he used to treat his chicken: DURAMYCIN-10 I went back to the grange to get some. Very glad I did, because after only 24 hours she is nearly back to her old self; the swelling is down, she is active and standing more often, even making coos which she had not made for nearly a week! She is still quite lethargic and weak, but I think she is going to make it :) I will update this post. The video:

I would still do an x-ray to rule out the possibility of a hernia though. Good luck and look forward to hearing a positive solution.

Ah thank you for the info ill definitely give it a try ill call my local produce shop now to see if they sell duramycin10. I might also try to get her one of them hormonal implants to stop her from laying if she doesn't have any other problems.

Turns out the injection of antibiotics the vet gave marge was the same as duramycin. He said it was slow releasing or something like that so i'm not sure when she should go in and get another one i might give him a call again tomorrow , that vet is going to get sick of me. My drake Bob is sick now =( He has diarrhea and is lethargic and wont eat or walk around he looks really uncomfortable. He couldn't even come out from his coop to see me. He usually runs out when i walk outside. His vent was covered in poop , He is the first duck i raised from a duckling he is my baby so im stressing really badly i might start another thread.

Did you get the activated charcoal and use it? I'm thinking if Bob is now sick they may have gotten into a toxin. I gave you the link further back on how to use the AC and how long to use it.

Wow so sorry to hear about your Drake. It's bad enough dealing with Margaret's problem. I don't know how many ducks you have, but I would definitely isolate the 2 sick ducks from the rest of the flock. It sounds to me like it could be some kind of virus. Ducks are usually pretty resilient (more so that all other birds including chickens). I would strip everything down and sanitize the entire environment with a watered down bleach solution. Make sure to clean your hands well before and after treating your sick babies. I would also check your food too to verify there is no presence of mold. I feed my baby a 50/50 mix of purina duck chow and cracked corn. She also loves lettuce and fresh diced tomatoes. It sounds like your drake needs to be put on antibiotics. If you are on limited funds, there are antibiotics sold for chickens at tractor supply that can be added to their feed but they are not as strong as oral antibiotics (which is probably what your drake needs). Also, make sure not to eat any eggs while any of your hens are on antibiotics. I am praying for you and your babies. Please keep me posted on your progress. God bless you :)

I have 10 ducks and some due to hatch tomorrow. Bob is already separated. Margaret went crazy when i took her away from her son and daughters so she has been outside with them but i will definitely catch her today her son and daughters are 4 months old so they do fine without her. she is looking a little bit better she is running around more. I think the antibiotics the vet gave her are kicking in. I have Bob on antibiotics (the feed store kind) for now. I checked their food for mold and i couldn't find any mold or anything i will clean up any old food outside today maybe they found food that was lying on the ground for a few days. Would an epsom salt flush work as well? Because i have epsom salt here but no activated charcoal. The vet did a fecal analysis on margaret and he said he couldn't see anything unusual. If she was poisoned do u think it would turn up in the analysis? Or would they need a blood test? im going to take Bob to the vet today. The **** avian vet better be in town today or im going to go crazy.

Since your taking Bob in ask the vet if he thinks a flush would be good and what he rec. Please let us know as soon as you can.

It turns out Bob has Coccidiosis i got the Coccivet for him and he is starting to look a lot better already. Now i'm going to give the meds to all my ducks. I might have to sell a few of my ducks. I have too many in a yard which is pretty big but not really big enough for all of them, which might be why they are getting sick. Its just so hard to sell them they are my babies lol but i knew i wouldn't be able to keep all 10 of them. I think Margaret may have the same thing so i will see if the medication works for her.
