I got another 2 bantams yesterday, I kept them in a shed overnight with my other bantams which were in a coop. When I went to let them out this morning I noticed blood in one of the new hens faeces and she's dirty, bloody and looks sore around her vent. I'm going to bathe her tonight after sunset but what's the best way to bathe them? And could this be something contagious that could spread through my flock?

After her bath, didn't use any soap and I was worried about having the water too hot.

Sometimes chickens will peck the vents of others, vausing damage and bleeding. They do this if they are overcrowded, are not getting enough protein in their diets, and if they are bored and not getting outside to roam around. They also could be suffering from coccidiosis, which can be treated with Corid (amprollium,) and can be diagnosed with a fecal test on some fresh droppings taken in to a vet. Once you get her bottom cleaned up you might take new pictures. I would use a plastic dish pan or 5 gallon bucket with warm soapy water to bathe her.

The last picture is after her first bath. She's acting strange today, standing around on one leg, drinking a lot of water and seems off balance. Are fecal float tests expensive?

She's passing a lot of clear smelly fluid. Smells like a mixture of fish and ammonia. One of her nails has also come off when I was trying to put her in the tub and was bleeding quite badly so what can I clean it with and how do I stop her from pecking it? I have a feeling she won't last more than a few days looking the way she is

I phoned my local vets and asked if they could do a fecal flotation test, she asked what animal and then said they don't do farm animals

Did you see if her vent was pecked and injured, and that was why it was bleeding? You can buy Corid from a feed store if you feel that she has coccidiosis. The dropping above looks more like intestinal shed than gross blood, but they can still have cocci. You can also give some plain yogurt for probiotics. Could she be limping because of the hurt toe? Check her crop to see if it is emptying overnight. Has she been eating and drinking? Electrolytes in her water and feeding her some chopped egg might help until you get Corid.

The picture of her in the run holding her foot up was before her nail ripped off. She doesn't look bloody anymore after her first bath but the white build up has come back. I can't see any cuts or wounds but the skin does look balled and irritated. I think she may have vent gleet but I need to find a vet that will do a fecal test to be sure. Yesterday she didn't seem too interested in food but today she's eaten a lot. She's still drinking a lot of water compared to my other 7 chickens

tell them its a cat poop, poop is poop
I did tell her I read it's a the same test as dogs and cats but even the 2nd vet I phoned said it's not something they usually do but took my details. I will try them again tomorrow and see if I can speak to a vet
