blood on an egg

Hi there,

This morning I found blood on an egg. The pattern of the blood smear looked like it happened as it was being laid.

Is this a sign of something serious? I haven't found a hen yet with an injured vent but I haven't checked through all of them.

Usually a hen will have blood on the egg if the hen just started laying.

These hens have been laying for about 6 months.
