Unfortunately I think it's both If you look at the right where her tail feathers are coming out of the skin, you can see the maggots. I can't imagine that was related to the prolapse, since they're so far up? It's so bad.

In the mean time, do you have neosporin with NO pain killer? Or Veterycin? If not, you may want to pick up some on your way back.

Yes I do have vetirycin! The neosporin without pain killer.. I may but I think it has the painkiller :/ I can definitely pick up some without it!
I have read plenty about flystrike, your case specifically, but am lost with the prolapsed vent.. is that even treatable? I'm about to read up on it.

If you haven't left and you have some peroxide or something to splash on her quickly to maybe help some. Of course your Grandma is most important but I can feel the worry in reading your words. Maybe don't worry about blow drying her and do a quick soak before leaving and another soak and removal once you're home

Or spray the area heavily before heading out? Either way, no matter what, your Grandma is more important.

Not looking great. I soaked her in a warm salt bath for a very long while, changed the water 3 times because it was so gross. I've sprayed the wounds down with vetirycin and I tried to give her a good blow dry, she seemed to enjoy it.
Ugh. I'm a bit discouraged though. It's really bad. And I've manually fixed the prolapse three times but It keeps coming out of place

Yes, I do think the prolapse caused the flystrike. You are doing a good job.

Unfortunately, I do not think she will make it...but maybe its because I have never dealt with a prolapse. Flystrike is already quite deadly by itself. @Wyorp Rock knows much more than me though!

I'm thinking the same thing.. ugh. At least I made her a bit more comfortable. I kind of had a feeling :/

I can't start treatment until tonight, my grandmother is in the hospital and I was just about to leave when I saw the hen.

Your grandmother is certainly more important than your chicken, but only you can decide if you have time for both.

If you do not have enough time to treat the chicken, you might just euthanize her to prevent suffering.
