Blood pooling in hatching duck egg

There's blood visible inside the shell from the outside. The chick is alive and peeping. I know it's not a vein that was cut by a piece of shell because it made a little pip on the opposite side of the egg and the blood was already there. The duckling opened up more of the shell. At this point I knew it wasn't dead. I very carefully opened up the egg a little bit more so I could look at the pool of blood. I took a couple pictures to see what other people have to say about it.
 
Looks like a vessel to me, also appears that the shell has been broken by something other than a zipping duck and its being shrink wrapped by the membrane due to the lack of humidity.
