No wonder they make excellent vets....not mine, hes EMT but they all do have a caring heart for people and animals!

Imagine what teeny tiney vet would do with a stubborn cow trying to expel her calf in a hard way!

Dr. Robinsons just called and what he found in Lilly's blood sample makes him 100% it was cardiac failure. The blood sample showed very high potassium levels and an elevated white count. So he believes she had an infection in her heart, probably from birth/hatch and it finally got her. he said that humans and animals can have an infection in their heart for years before it shows itself or it can become apparent in a few days.

He explained in a very long winded technical manner so I am giving you the short abridged version. LOL He explained that the heart when it has an infection cannot flush potassium through the system the way it normally would and therefore it stays in her blood stream.

We buried Lilly between two trees yesterday and currently have stones on top of it. Cheyenne is working on a marker for Lilly and then we will put it up.

Again a big thank you from Cheyenne and I for everything. You all have been absolutely wonderful, helpful, supportive and understanding. While she and I are both still nervous and check on the flock constantly still, we know in our hearts that Lilly was just not meant to stay with us any longer. But Cheyenne stated that "at least she got to be loved by us during her life" that is a positive way to look at this for her and I am very proud of her.

Lilly is missed by us and the flock. They have been tussling for the number 1 spot and finally they have sorted it all out. My NHR has now taken over the head honcho spot with my SLW still in #2.

Again thanks everyone.

At least you know for sure, even though that doesn't make it much easier. The memorial sounds nice.

I hope you collected a lot of her feathers, maybe you could do something with them. That's what I did for my BR and I saved her very last egg to do something with in her memory. Hope your daughter is feeling better.

Oh, Cetawin, I'm so sorry. I just read this thread for the first time, and I can't stop crying. It sounds like you have a very beautiful daughter with an angel's soul. God blessed Lilly AND your family by bringing you together. May he continue to bless and keep you.

man tho.......that makes me worry about giving scrapes/treats to the girls. In terms of the potassium.....many "people" foods have high potassium levels. I guess they would have to eat a lot of it though! Again----so sorry for your loss.

No need to worry about that junebug...their bodies normally flush it out but when something is wrong with the circulatory system then it can be a problem.

Sad but it was meant to be I guess.

Lunachick we did not save that many...Cheyenne had a difficult time getting me to get a wing feather and a tail feather for her...she wanted it but she did not want me to take it off either. so I clipped two wing feathers and about 5 fail fluffs. The fluffs are going in the scrapbook I have been making for the girls, one wing feather is on the mantel with my wolf's ashes and she has one of each.

Cheyenne is doing much better. On her way out to the bus this mornign she went by the grave and talked to Lilly. She asked if it was okay and I told her to talk to her as much as she wants to.
