Dr. Robinsons just called and what he found in Lilly's blood sample makes him 100% it was cardiac failure. The blood sample showed very high potassium levels and an elevated white count. So he believes she had an infection in her heart, probably from birth/hatch and it finally got her. he said that humans and animals can have an infection in their heart for years before it shows itself or it can become apparent in a few days.
He explained in a very long winded technical manner so I am giving you the short abridged version. LOL He explained that the heart when it has an infection cannot flush potassium through the system the way it normally would and therefore it stays in her blood stream.
We buried Lilly between two trees yesterday and currently have stones on top of it. Cheyenne is working on a marker for Lilly and then we will put it up.
Again a big thank you from Cheyenne and I for everything. You all have been absolutely wonderful, helpful, supportive and understanding. While she and I are both still nervous and check on the flock constantly still, we know in our hearts that Lilly was just not meant to stay with us any longer. But Cheyenne stated that "at least she got to be loved by us during her life" that is a positive way to look at this for her and I am very proud of her.
Lilly is missed by us and the flock. They have been tussling for the number 1 spot and finally they have sorted it all out. My NHR has now taken over the head honcho spot with my SLW still in #2.
Again thanks everyone.
