Bloody Chicken Egg Coating

Any suggestions why my bantam silkie often lays eggs with blood on the coating. No signs of coccidiosis as stools are completely normal. White silkie with no signs of bleeding otherwise. Only notice blook on eggs.

Is there a concern she is having difficulty with egg laying? Future concerns?

Behavior, appetite and stools normal. She is free ranged with other bantams and ducks. Do not post negatives about housing ducks and chickens together- they have been together and are great together. Therefore, they get to stay together at our home.

How long has she been laying?

Blood on an egg can be from a blood vessel that has ruptured while straining to lay the egg. Usually this is seen in new layers or if she is overweight.

Look at her vent - any signs that her vent has been pecked or damaged. While you are looking, inspect for lice/mites too.

Usually happens when a blood vessel ruptures when laying. It happens when birds are new to laying or haven’t laid in a while.

She has been laying for appriximately 2 months now. Vent is clear. Nomites, lice, blood or other signs of injuries. Not overweight. She is an average sized bantam silkie.

How often does this happen?
That's a fair amount of blood....and an odd pattern, usually it's mostly smeared.

I maybe wrong but as aart mentioned the "pattern" is odd. Look like it's coming out side ways, the line end breaking the blood vessels then it smears ...

It may rectify itself....or not.
She may have something like a hemorrhoid inside her vagina that keeps 'leaking' every time she lays.
Usually this type of bloody eggs are a one time, or very infrequent, thing.
As long as she seems healthy, active and is eating/drinking/pooping ok, I'd try not to worry...not sure if anything could be done about it anyway.

Be greatly appreciated. Now I have had chickens most of my life and have seen hundreds of soft shell eggs but I don’t ever remember seeing one quite like this one. Do I have a problem with one of my chickens?

When one of my hens was coming into lay, she laid a softie that had no real “egg” form and no yolk. The whole thing pretty much looked like the top of the one pictured, with a couple of half enclosed blobs of the albumen, and to my knowledge (I have to assume here because I’ve never found the time to watch all of them) all 12 of my hens are laying regularly. I’d say it’s fine, maybe not normal by the definition of normal but I wouldn’t call it a problem.
