Bloody egg

I've seen this before and it's usually because of mites - but not always. Did you see any crusty looking/black scabby skin around her vent area at all? Usually there is a significant issue when mites are causing blood like that, though. You should be able to see something going on.

I do remember having a few hens where it wasn't mites, and I couldn't find any reason for it. I can't remember it continuing to be a problem, so it must have resolved on its own. Sorry my answer is so vague. Hopefully someone else will respond with a better answer as to specifically what might be causing it.
 
I don't use DE. I use poultry dust from the farm store. If the mites are bad enough that it's causing crusting around the vent I want to get it taken care of immediately. :)
