I also am no expert and am just sharing with you what I've learned in the last couple of years. Try the egg cartons first so you don't have complications from temp/humidity drops. I'm really surprised no one else has chimed in on this thread, lol. I've never hatched ducks so I wouldn't be much help there. Hands off after day 18 is the best approach, I agree, but sometimes that can't be helped.
I will give it a try the next hatching see how it goes I will have to google it again and get the specifics about it but I got a few weeks for that. I am onto my next problem, lol. Something is up with one of my polish hens tonight. Went out to round them all up for bed and seen one of them was wobbly and had to use her wings to balance so trying to diagnose this now. I gave her an epsom salt bath and have her in a tub in the house in a dark room right now. Problem is her belly does not feel egg bound she actually looks and feels bloated. So that is what I am working on tonight. One of her sisters died a few months ago I am thinking it might be the same thing and something genetic. Anyway one thing or another.
