Hi all, when I went to check on my chickens this morning I noticed one of my cream leg bars had blood all over her foot and was limping. When I picked her up I noticed that her nail was broken and raised. I washed it with warm water and was wondering if there is anything else that I should do to stop the bleeding? Will the nail heal by itself or will it need to be removed?

Update: The raised part of her nail has now broken off while I was cleaning it. Is this a bigger cause for concern?

I had a hen get her toenail caught in the chainlink fence as she decided to jump up and over. Hers hurt a lot and she limped for a week or so, but she healed fine. If you can catch her, a bit of Betadine on the toe may help prevent infection. Hard to keep them out of the dirt though.
