Good evening!

We just cracked open a giant double yolk egg, only to find that the whites were a dark red. It smells faintly of blood.
We collected this egg a few weeks ago, and nobody seems sick or dying.
Does anybody have any ideas?
I know the internet says not a problem, but we trust this community more.

Looks like there may be an intact or partially intact Follicle in there, hard to tell.
If you still have that, can you place it on a paper plate so we can see all of the contents?

A Follicle is just basically the covering/blood supply to Ovum (Yolks), sometimes the whole Follicle will release instead of just the Yolk.

Sometimes a blood vessel can rupture and you will get blood and a blood clot incorporated into an egg.

A few examples of Follicles - yes...the yolks are encased in those red vein covered things until they are released to be sent down the reproductive system become an "Egg". A hen's reproductive system is amazing!
