Thanks, you enabler you!! Just happen to have a few more in lockdown. Looks like you are keeping your bator full too!

Hi! How goes the hatch? Any chicks yet?

My current one just finished - 12 out of 15 that made it to lock down. All my own eggs. Sold the 2 EE chicks. The rest are silkies. I'm just waiting for some brooder space to open up.

I have 4 dozen eggs that need to be set, and an incubator full of eggs already brewing - half get locked down tomorrow, the rest 11 days after that.

This is going to be a busy month!

6 so far. Two blackish ones, two paints (maybe three, depending on what the last one looks like when it dries) and two yellowish ones - one of which might end up being the other paint I mentioned.

Katie is one happy little girl right now!

Hey, who brought the Legos in here???? NO Legos allowed!!

So updates....ended up with 8 chicks from the 14 that went into lockdown. I'm pretty happy with that. If anyone wants Silkie hatching eggs, I can't recommend @RubyNala97 highly enough! Nine hatched, but we did lose one little yellow one. She was hatched with an unabsorbed yolk sac, so it didn't surprise me too much. I also had to assist one who pipped at the pointy end of the egg and couldn't make any progress because of how his head was positioned, and she had badly curled feet. But they are flattening out now...only one foot has some slight curl to it so I'm just in watch and see mode. Another little one had really splayed legs - my own personal Easter Windup chick -

But he's recovered just fine and can't tell him from the other dark ones now. All in all it was pretty rewarding after the dismal results from my first 2 attempts, and Katie got her Silkies! She got to watch the last two of them hatch - called her when they were zipping and she came right over.

Eyeball to eyeball with the little silver one that just hatched.

And the little yellow one (the one we eventually lost) is pretty close to getting out, as you can see.

The Silkies.....

Yay! Blooie!!! They're darling!!! Might have to order some eggs! ;) lol might have to wait until DH2B forgets how many we have first lol. Have a dozen or more mixed eggs(silkies, EE, slw, slw/Orpington mixes) in lockdown right now. Nothing from them yet. We discovered that the fan went out on our incubator and DH2B fixed it by Macgyver-ing a computer fan in, for right now but not before it looked the first two staggers of our last hatch... We did get three chicks last hatch but lost one that was hatched with wry neck for unknown reasons(it was responding to treatment well) also lost another little one that was still waiting for its navel to close. Ugh was a hard week in that way, but we got our chicks back from the kindergarten class that hatched them and they got 14/18 eggs!!! So we have 14 more fuzzy butts! So good to see all those littles after the last two weeks and the abysmal last stagger in the hatch. In the last two weeks we lost our lf rooster, a SLW/buff Orpington cockeral chick 6 weeks, a SLW hen, a salmon faverolles chick, the little one with wry neck, and the one that was almost out of the egg. We also almost lost another hen, and Isa Brown, that has been virtually plucked. So I'm excited to see the little ones start hatching in lockdown but they may be a little late due to the temp issues. At least they're much closer to the right air cell sizes though still a bit off.
