OK, please overlook the horrible injury. I had posted another thread last week in the emergencies section about the incident. She is healing - these photos were taken over the weekend. Head is getting a big scab now.

Our special bird did not have a solid place in our house prior to the incident. But this bird has found a home regardless of gender now. I told my husband if it starts to crow we just have to make the neighbors deal with it. I'm not getting rid of a chicken that I've nursed back to life.

Just curious to know what it will be. SO, I am eagerly awaiting - boy or girl? Thanks for the help!

WARNING: Please NOTE - I posted the pictures with the injury visible (or at least the earlier ones it is blurry) at the end of the photos. It is still a graphic and open wound.

OH YEAH a hen!!!!! She was hatched under our broody (another wyandotte - buff) and they are both very sweet birds. Our property flooded and momma and 2 babies were put into the coop at night since their home was unlivable. All was well and chickens were on the roost. Then they did this in the morning. Even the mom tries to attack her now. We keep her in the garage brooder with the 3 week old chicks. She climbed in there on her own and they all live happily. It's the funniest sight - this big baby in with the others (which are silkies no less!) She also seems to have lost some common sense like the accident injured part of her brain and messed with chicken development. Only time will tell.

We call her Special. I wanted a better name for her since I haven't been able to name a chicken yet! But the kids call her that and she is special to all of us now :) She climbs in and out of the brooder to just to say hi!!

Sorry but I'm voting roo......a pullet should have lacing across her back.....a roo doesn't. Plus the red comb and wattles. My pullets don't have that much red until they're much older.

I don't know much about wyandottes in general but those legs look pretty thick to me. And that's young to have so much red in the face. Let us know in a few months?

Looks like a pullet to me... my EE had the same thing happen to her! her injury looks nearly identical to your girls, except much more scabby now. Chickens can be so cruel! Hope she heals quickly!
