I love them because you get the best of both worlds.. they lay a good sized egg, are good layers, they lay well in hard winters, and don't mind bad weather. You don't have to baby them at all. They are duel purpose and make a beautiful eating bird. They have laods of fat under the skin, more then most birds so it does make it a bit hard to pluck, however that fat means more to freeze and store for cooking needs. They are go broodie, so if your bator goes bad or you just don't want to mess with a bator, you have broodies to raise chicks. They have a wonderful temperament. I have never owned a rooster that was mean in this breed. They are just wonderful to be around. Oh.. and did I mention they are beautiful?
