Maybe "bad-mouthing" wasn't the correct term to use, but I used it for lack of a better one.

I guess I don't see why there should be any problem with an English breed looking like the English breed them....after all they did develop in England....not America. The English may very well look at the American style and shake their heads at how "their" breed has been ruined.

Oh, no doubt. I had a friend from new zealand who says we've ruined the Queen's english too. LOL!

Personally I like something in between when I look at my birds. I just think both "sides" of this get way too worked up.

Much ado about nothing as Shakespeare would say.

I do feel that some people go a tad further than stating their preference - I think they enjoy being, lets say, overtly negative, about the English Orps whenever they get the opportunity. I don't see the necessity of this myself, but some people thrive on it - so be it.

I've had both American and English Orps. Size wise, my American birds could not begin to compare to my English birds. They are fluffy and they are BIG !! but they don't look like Cochins.

Nothing remotely "Cochin" looking here.

Edited to add - I just got an e-mail from a renowned Orpington breeder in the UK, and his exact words to me about my birds were..."it's so great to see some Orps in the United States look like Orpingtons instead of Sussex." That was a huge compliment to me, and these are the comments that I focus on.

I raised buffs for years, now I can't stand them, I like the blues.. Thats doesn't mean Im putting buffs down, it just means I don't like them. Im not "threaten by anyone that does raise them. Just like English or American.. its apples and oranges. Maybe you are defensive? I don't know why an apple would threaten an orange?

Thanks Katy. ANd keep in mind that Nigel and Hagrid are only barely 6 months old in these pictures, so by the time they reach 18 months they will be much bigger.

iaJewel - I don't think we are defensive - I think we are all just tired of hearing the same negative comments from the same people over and over again.

Your right.. they are all Orp. and at the risk of sounding stupid.. I can't see the difference between those birds and mine. Mine are American. They both look like Orps to me... now some on the English thread did look very round and for lack of better words.. bloated.. puff balls.. or what ever.. but these look very much like what I see out my window.

By the way.. I love them.. thanks for sharing.

Im adding ..... The diffrance I see, is mine don't have all the red around the eyes.. body wise.. I think they are the same.. Again.. Im an idoit don't listen to me.. but.. I would feed these birds.

How did we get off Blue Orps on to the English / American thing?

Can who ever had an emotional break down take a pill and get back on topic?

It was because your topic title said "American", IA.

Again - it's just a matter of taste.

THANK you. Geez, I have an opinion and I stated my preference for the less fluffy type Orps. After all, this thread was about the more Americanized type, wasn't it? That's what the title says. Good grief, some folks need to take a step back and chill out. I have watched the "English Orp" thread go on and on and all those who prefer that have discussed the topic for ages. I think I deserve the same courtesy of an opposite opinion in a thread entitled "American Orps". No one "badmouthed" anyone, certainly not I. If anyone says I did, they apparently need to re-read my post. To say I don't like a certain breed is now supposedly badmouthing those who do? Rilly, folks, c'mon.

Sorry for the interruption, IA. Carry on.
