Blue Andalusian, tell me about yours

Thanks for all the help. I may get a couple for the heck of it and try them. LOL...and now I'll be thinking about the Minorcas too.

Wish the eggs were bigger than medium though. We sell at farmers markets and in a CSA. Believe it or not, there are actually people who want white eggs - and think there's a difference between free range white vs free range brown or EE eggs. Anyway, a large egg would work a bit better for me than medium.

That was what I noticed....I had to keep mine locked up one day and made the mistake of cracking the coop door to grab something. 2 andalusians made their escape and that was that. Of all 30something chickens in there, they were the only ones impossible to keep in that day. They were a lot harder to get to go back to the coop at night.....I used to have to pull a couple of them off an outside roost every day for weeks. The rooster did try roosting on top of the coop a couple nights but gave that up pretty quick. A couple of the girls tried roosting in a tree a few times but I took them out and stuck them in the coop......once we got that all straightened out, they were great at going in the coop at night. That rooster was very good about making sure his girls were inside nice and early and safe. They were smart birds, but very active. Definitely fun to have around.

We have both Black Minorca's and Blue Andy's both breeds of hens are real easy to live with. Both breeds of Roos are about the same..typical Med. attitude. The Black Minorca outlays in size and quantity the Andy hands down. Now for the sweeter options the Exechequer or Mille Fleur Leghorn..they are both very easy to live with and did I mention pretty

neither will love you though if you want to cage them up.All of ours are out during the day and in at night and all seem to like that arrangement.

Thanks for the additional replies. All of our birds get to free range. They have fenced pasture areas....enough fence to keep them separated from the cows/pigs and gardens....but plenty of room with more grass and weeds than they can wipe-out.

I may have to go with the Minorcas or another Leghorn color. DH agrees, we really need a large egg or the customers.
