Through a comedy of errors on the feed store and my own part, I ended up with a group of Blue Andalusians.

They are about 4 weeks old now and it appears that of the straight run, I ended up with 1 blue cockerel, 2 blue pullets, 1 splash pullet, 1 black pullet. Couldn't have done that if I tried! Nice little assortment there.

This is especially impressive considering I ordered these as a barred rock, a light brahma...and one was sold as a "white ameracuana". Go figure! I knew the order had gone wrong at the feed store but the blues were so darn cute, I just went with it and added the other blues onto the purchase for kicks.....

The cockerel is VERY obvious. His comb is huge and he has wattles already. One of the blues was questionable due to leg and body size but has not had any real comb growth while the obvious one is doubling by the week.

I am due for new pics, of course

I'm not all that familiar with Blue Andalusians, although I have seen a few pictures of them. Anything I should know? I am planning on keeping these as a group and seeing what comes of it. I'm aware of the blue genetics, only as far as blue x blue gives blue, black and splash. Blue x splash gives blue and splash, black x splash gives all blue, etc. That is about it.

Any info? Help? tips? ideas?

I'm bumping you b/c I'm curious about them too. I got one and she is the most interesting and curious bird this time round....

Can't wait to hear people talk about theirs.

I love mine, very sweet birds and feed/egg ratio is great. Now that mine are really mature I'm getting nice, large eggs from them. The rooster is very sweet, and they are all good free rangers. Only thing to watch is frostbite in the winter. They have huge combs, and with the harsh weather this winter I had problems with frostbite for both the rooster and his girls. Even treating his comb once a day wasn't helping much, and they ended up finishing the winter out in my garage. They are really sensitive to the cold.

All of my chicken coop/pen area is adjacent to the back of my garage (which is detached and midway down the hill on my property) which has electric, so I plan to heat during winter to help things out.

The little cockerel has a big comb already....this pic was taken a week or two ago.

And the splash who looks more lavender in this pic, but does have "splashes" of colored feathers. She is so pretty already, I can't wait to see her all grown up.

I've got to get them outside in a play pen during the day and get new pics. I have them in a 3.5x6 brooder shed in my garage with a box fan on them during the day because of the extreme heat right now. Even with a light in the brooder, the pics always have weird coloring.

I plan on keeping my 2 white leghorn pullets and 2 buttercup pullets with them as well....it will be a mediteranean coop. And that will give the cockerel 8 girls to "play" with

I kind of wonder what the blue x leghorn and blue x buttercup chicks would look like as well

I love mine! I hatched mine from Okiehen's eggs. I have six more eggs in the incubator right now due to hatch next week.

I have had a mean roo in the past & have two that will go to that big frying pan in the sky right now, but most of them are smart, sweet, lively birds that are fun to interact with & watch. They tamed faster than any chicks I've ever hatched & can be downright nuisances--first to come right up to me & demand treats. They don't back down from anything much!

Here is an updated picture of the cockerel and one of the pullets (plus a cameo by the RIR cockerel)

Little boy blue has a serious comb for 4 weeks. He is super cute though.

Are splash supposed to be silvery? Mine shines like she is glowing with glitter.
