I use a regular tack. I use a circular swirling motion to gently drill it into the top of the shell, then flip it and do the same thing on the bottom. Then I go back to the top hole and slowly make it a bit bigger with the tack. This is the hole that I'm going to get the yolk and white out of so it needs to be a little bigger. I then use a 3 ml syringe with needle to slowly push air in through the small hole, now turned to face upright. This pushes everything out the larger hole and into a bowl for later eating.
It takes less than 5 minutes to blow the stuff out this way. I'm sure there's a faster way but I noticed if I cover the small bottom hole with mod podge it's almost not visible, so I don't always have to put a bead cap on the end.
I also attempted to use my Dremel bit and that was a very messy disaster.

I use the sharp heavy needle that comes with a meat flavor injector. I chip a hole on the large end into the air sack being careful not puncture the membrane just yet. I then make a smaller hole on the small end then hold it over a cup and slide the needle into the hole on the large end puncture the membrane and the yolk. I stir the yolk being careful not the do any more damage to the hole in the shell. I then blow it out ~ blowing into the small hole and the contents come out the large hole. I use the same flavor injector to put water into the shell, shaking to rinse it well. I finally inject a small amount of bleach water into the shell for a final cleaning before drying. I do dry for 30 seconds in the microwave oven. Be careful as they get really hot fast in the microwave.
I know some use a dremel to drill a hole ~ I haven't tried that yet.

Agreed! It's not a punishment to read through the thread in its entirety if you do the craft!
I hope this doesn't sound gross...I just found a bunch of eggs I forgot to put into the compost in a box in the mudroom. Lots of BCM, Welsummer, EE's and Ameraucana eggs! I'm hoping that they are in fair condition being around a month old.
I will be blowing out my first eggs tonight, and am nervous they will blowup in my face!
Stocked up on supplies...ready to get my craft on!
