I have a question here ... have been seeing all of the beautiful colors being developed with blues and lavenders, etc. There are some beautiful pics of lav birds carrying one andalusian blue gene. They are gorgeous, but couldn't breed true b/c they only have one copy of the blue. However, if a flock carried two copies of andalusian blue and 2 copies of lav, they would breed true ... but what would that bird look like? Essentially a lavender splash ...white with lav spots? Anybody have one?

Lavender is recessive, you need two copies of lavender for it to express. so if you mate a lav/lav(lavender) x a Splash(two copies of Blue Bl/Bl) you will end up with a Blue bird that looks like Andalusian blue..

you could try Platinum Blue instead. its khaki(two copies of Dun Chocolate) mated to Splash Blue(two shots of Andalusian Blue Bl/Bl)

I just acquired my first two blues last weekend. One blue orpington pullet, and one blue ameraucana cockerel. If the cockerel doesn't annoy the neighbors too much with his crowing, I am looking forward to some blue and splash easter eggers next spring/summer!

Pullet, as yet unnamed because the right name just hasn't come to us yet.

Once they're out of quarantine and in some natural light I'll have to get better pictures of them.

Those are beautiful ... but perhaps I didn't word my question well. What I meant was one bird (not just the flock) carrying two lav and two blue. If you had a flock of these, they could breed true b/c every bird would have two copies of each gene (right?). Ie splash x splash is 100 % splash, lav x lav = 100 % lav. splash lav x splash lav (each with two copies of blue and two copies of lav) = 100 % splash lav

See what I mean? Is that way off base?

Ignore all of the cukoo marans ... they are headed for freezer camp
