I started out getting the same chickens everyone gets in feed stores. Then I started to get interested in the diff types of eggs the chickens lay, rainbow I wanted. The diff colors made my heart go pity-pat. Then I got butterflies in my stomach when I discovered "blue chickens." Which are actually gray birds, but they really made me happy. I started out with my blue chicken adventure by adopting 2 blue splash. (a frizzle and a smooth.) I know about how to produce the blue through breeding now, then I did not. But I lucked out that they would breed all blue chicks that laid a gray egg (see my avitar.) Then I adopted blue andelusians (great white eggs), Blue isbar (great blue/green eggs) Blue cochins, (tan eggs) I had adopted a blue laced red wyandotte, but a hawk got it. Then most recently I adopted solid blue wyandottes. The best layers of the blue birds were BA, and BI. pic shows some of my blue birds. (rooster has blue cochin/LO/BCM).
