Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

Pics
draye, Can you post some pictures of yours so we can see them?
I will when we get desent wheather and I'm off and can find someone that can takke pictures of chickens. I'm no good at it, always turns out with their rear-end or head turned.

a nice medium blue would be what your are looking for with blues. a little darker than this roo above would be my preference I like the dark blues best.
Thanks.

Got my first Marans egg today:

Sorry I didn't clean them yet, just got so excited about getting one.

It is the one almost in the middle, with the speckles on it.
Hopefully the eggs will get darker as they start laying better and more often.

Typically they wont get darker. Usually they start off their darkest and get a little lighter during their laying cycle. Then they take a break for molting or winter and when they resume they will be dark again. So far that is the pattern I notice with my Marans but Im sure there is an exception to every rule.

I do love the speckles.

congrats !!! it's nice to have a bowl with all different colors. I have several who lay speckled eggs
I don't use them for breeding forward but i sure like them in my egg basket. I would not expect
huge changes but it does take a couple of eggs for them to settle down into a usual color for them.

Would like to get some input on my girl Olivia. Wondering if I should use her for breeding?
Thanks for any input:)

It is hard to tell from one picture but this is what I see.... she has a pinched tail, fixable with the right roo. Her eyes are too dark, fixable too. Her color in her hackles look off.... not sure exactly what it is but I would think she has copper on her breast. Does she? I can't see anything else enough to remark on it. Does she have feathered legs? What color are her legs?

If you want more info on her we will need pics from the side front and top too. FULL body shots.

Collette looks like a nice young pullet. I really like her type, and the tone of copper in her hackles. Giles is a chunk monster!

Thanks! Collette has not laid yet. I think the weather has something to do with that and Giles is a chunk. Haha. I like his personality. I had a few of the darker cockerels to choose from but they had so many flaws ie. wrong body type or funky combs or tails. What do you think about me putting these two together? Did you see the pics of just Giles? Trying to learn how to choose and train my eye. Thanks again.

Well, mine two hens are picking up pretty good now, one will lay one day then the other will lay the next then they take a day off so far.

I know that breeding splash to splash will give 100% splash, and that continuously doing this will lessen the quality. I keep getting requests for "splash eggs" for hatching and I'm wondering if this is just a fad? I don't have any splashes at this point, just blue and black coppers. Well, I have a blue copper cockerel that some have called splash but I disagree, and a ??blue?? pullet that I would have called blue splash but that's a redundant term, isn't it?

This pullet is about 6 months in this photo. She has no copper whatsoever and was sold to me as a blue Marans.

This guy is about 5 months in this photo and in a hurry to get outside.
