Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

hi! how is school?

question.....birchens- do they have color or pattern on the breast of the pullets? that pullet above looks to have some pattern. I think one of the pullets I hatched has some silver on her breast....thinking she is a cull- yes or no?

I have seen this pattern on some Birchens in the past. I don't know what it is from or why....I have a hunch that it is from outcrossing or it is something that is incomplete in the secondary pattern genes. Vicki had a Birchen gal that had this same look to her that she posted photos of about 2 years or so ago.......wonder if she can explain or give her opinion on it.

How old is the pullet that you hatched that has this silver on her breast? Who are her parents?

School is good, busy, but good. Looking forward to this quarter ending on the 22nd. Thankfully we get 4 weeks off before fall quarter starts.

she is about 2.5-3rd months old. she came from some eggs I swapped. she needed to add more eggs to fill the swap so I picked Birchens.

I will start hatching from my new pen for Birchens. if I don't like what I get I will be knocking on becky's door for some eggs or chicks.

Hello!

I am new to marans. I recently bought some eggs from a local breeder to hatch, and he gave me a blue hen and a splash roo. They are very calm birds compared to some of my others. I am loving them. The roo is a very much a gentleman. Critiques welcome.

Hi Everyone,
A few days ago, I asked for info on some of my CM's and desired a mentor. I had several responses and enjoyed the private messages. My daughter-in-law and I are on education overload on the Marans--but thoroughly enjoying this venture. This forum and community is wonderful. A BIG thank you to those of you who took the time to share some important tips with a couple of novices.

We've set a 2-3 year goal to put into breeding a couple of good/great trios of Blue CM birds. I received great news that I'll be receiving about 15 Blue CM chicks from Terry Mitchell who took over Wade Jeane's line of birds in about 2 weeks...I am thrilled.

Could I get some feedback from anyone on how Terry has done with the Jeane line? Anyone know?

Thanks you.

So glad to find this thread! Acquired some Marans two years ago and have added a few more. Such nice chickens. Here is a picture of Ivan, my first blue copper. Wondering how well he measures up to the standard. I also got three hens with him. He is way bigger than my golden cuckoo rooster.

I am new to Marans. I have a nice rooster, Little Boy Blue who is about 5 months old. I also have a few blue cooper marans hens and a few black cooper marans hens too. Here is a pic of my blue rooster. Not a great one. I will put up a better pic for some critiques. Also is a pic of some eggs from my blue cooper marans hens. I have two that are laying.

Hi everyone and beautiful birds! My blue hen layed her first egg yesterday, which was super exciting for us. The only issue I have is that it's not dark at all. It's a light brown with some very small dark speckles on one side. It's also funny looking (I'll post pics later). I was wondering if it's normal for their first egg not to be dark or am I stuck with a flawed Marans? I'll post a pic of her too.

Sorry for the delay. I got home and took a few photos of "Beeker." I posted a few so that you can see her different colors. She appears darker in some of the because of the shade under the coop.

This is her next to my black Tail Buff

Here are some pics of her first egg. I also found a membrane with some shell attached to it, in the middle of the run.
I'm not sure if one of them could have layed that. I really don't think that they've eaten an egg.

Here's the other side.

The picture doesn't really reflect the colors correctly. That is her egg next to a light blue Ameraucana egg.
