Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

now this chick looks exactly like the Rare Golden Salmon Marans(wildtype chicks) here is some info on them

now it would be quite easy to reproduce them in the USA if one used Welsummer stock, and even if people were not trying to Re-create this type of maran in the USA, BCM x Welsummer cross is common also so this type of chick should be expected from time to time as the wildtype chick down is also recessive to ER found on Black/Blue Copper marans, so one of your birds could be hiding e+ wildtype as in ER/e+ form

Birchen is dominant over wiltype, thats why they look like it, but they will carry it, it would be so cool if they grow to be like the rare Golden Salmon Marans, that way you can start your own line
That would be amazing! So far I have 4 hens and 1 rooster of the brown ones! I'm getting at least one out of every 2 dozen eggs!! I'm going to have to expand! lol

This is one of the week old chicks.

I have two Blue Copper Maran pullets that are 12 weeks old. One has a good bit of copper on her neck, the second is starting to get some coppery feathers. What strikes me is that the two hens have different color eyes. One is a golden brown (the one with more copper), the second is dark brown...almost black. Is a specific eye color common, or can both be found in Blue Copper Marans? Both have feathered feet. Sorry, I don't have close ups of their eyes, but below are pictures:

These are the parents, I also have cuckoo marans but they are all kept in separate pens to avoid breeding with each other.

The other hen looks identical to this one.

#1 chick

#2 chick

#3 chick

#4 chick

And #5 the only blue one
It looks like you're breeding a Blue Copper roo over Blue Copper hens which should give 25% splash, 25% Black copper and 50% Blue Copper. Chick #3 looks splash, chick #4 looks BCM and chick #5 looks like Blue Copper....so those all make sense. Chicks 1 & 2 look like they have the wild type stripes, e+, but their base color is off for GSM, chick #1 is too light, chick #2 is too dark. eb, brown, is also recessive to ER, and the chicks have striping as well and can vary from dark like chick #2 to cinnamon like chick #1. If they are golden salmons and are pullets, they will have a salmon colored breast when adult...if they are eb brown, they won't have a salmon breast. If they are roos, it will be hard to tell as both e+ and eb roos have duck wings. So the parents may be ER/e+ x ER/e+ or ER/eb x ER/eb... or something entirely different.
